The musical is a coming-of-age adventure. Ridiculed in Christmastown for his glowing red nose, Rudolph leaves to find a place where he belongs. Along the way, he befriends Hermey—an elf who wants to be a dentist—and the prospector Yukon Cornelius. They journey to the Island of Misfit Toys and face the fearsome Bumble (the Abominable Snow Monster). Ultimately, a fierce snowstorm threatens to ground Santa’s sleigh, and Rudolph's unique glowing nose becomes the beacon that lights the way. The central message is one of inclusion, teaching audiences of all ages that being different is what makes you special.
